I’m at Little Arrow, Now What? Things to Do

Here at Little Arrow Outdoor Resort we have so many fun activities you won’t even need to leave the campground! But if you simply must explore, there’s much to do and see in our home city of Townsend, and nearby Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

Smoky Mountain River Rat

Tubing on the Little River in Townsend is the perfect way to chill out on a steamy day! At Smoky Mountain River Rat’s Tubing Outpost A, you can bring your brood – including the family pup–  for a relaxing two-hour ride. For a shorter and splashier time, head to River Rat Outpost B and ride the rapids (no tots under six or pooches, please). A wristband gives you access to float as many times as you want, all day!

Tuckaleechee Caverns

For another “cool” experience, descend underneath the Smoky Mountains into Townsend’s famous Tuckaleechee Caverns. Over twenty million years old, the fascinating attraction features the tallest subterranean waterfall in the United States, and a “Big Room” nearly large enough to hold a football field! The famous Caverns also play an important global role: they house the most sensitive seismic station on earth, providing information on earthquakes and secret nuclear activity worldwide.

Wild Laurel Golf Course

Although a rainy day can wash out a round of golf, you can visit The Tavern, Wild Laurel Golf Course’s fantastic restaurant, to enjoy a full bar and locally sourced food. Townsend’s 18-hole, par 70 public course borders Cades Cove and is teeming with environmentally protected Smoky Mountain vegetation and wildlife. As you dine, be on the lookout for a black bear, a white-tailed deer, or the national park’s largest bird: the wild turkey!

Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg

If you’re ready to expand your horizons beyond Townsend, the cities of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are both less than an hour’s drive and offer endless attractions, shopping, and dining. Walk in the shoes of an ocean liner passenger in Pigeon Forge’s Titanic Museum, or eat and be entertained at a dinner show. In Gatlinburg, play with the penguins at the world-class Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, or cross the one-of-a-kind Gatlinburg SkyBridge. Look down if you dare!

Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country

Listed #8 on the Tripadvisor’s Top 25 Worldwide Amusement Parks, Dollywood is guaranteed to provide a day of family-friendly fun. Featuring live shows, thrilling rollercoasters, and more restaurants than you can shake a stick at, the famous attraction also holds beloved seasonal events such as Great Pumpkin LumiNights. Or, take the plunge into the many slides, rides, and swimming pools at Dollywood’s Splash Country, a USA Today top-rated outdoor water park. Ready to go? Buy tickets and parking vouchers right from our front desk (with a special Little Arrow discount for our campers, of course)!

Keep an eye on our event calendar to check out the happenings in Townsend, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, such as Townsend’s Great Smoky Mountain Hot Air Balloon Festival on August 21, 2021. Have a ball enjoying all; we’ll wait up for you!
