Why Fall and Winter are Our Favorites at Little Arrow
When people think of camping, they often picture sun-drenched days of summer—splashing in the pool, grilling hot dogs, and waking to bird calls with the promise of adventure. But at Little Arrow Outdoor Resort, the colder season in the Smokies has a special place in our hearts.
While we love the nostalgia of summer, there’s something magical about fall and winter camping. We’ve got our flannels and hot chocolate ready, and we’re here to tell you why the offseason might just become your favorite time to camp.
1. Fewer Bugs, More Bliss
Let’s face it: while the great outdoors are amazing, bugs aren’t always everyone’s favorite part. Good news for off-season campers—many of the bug species that might bother you during summer go into hibernation or simply can’t handle the cold. So, if bugs are your camping kryptonite, cooler weather camping is the way to go!
2. Clearer Skies for Stargazing
With longer nights, winter skies in the Smokies are perfect for stargazing. Bring a blanket and your favorite hot beverage, and lay back under the vast sky to take in the constellations without any light pollution from big cities.
3. Prime Time for Wildlife Watching
As the temperatures drop, many animals become more active, preparing for winter. Grab your binoculars and keep an eye out—just remember to give them plenty of space! Be Bear Aware: store your food properly and never leave it unattended to avoid unwanted visitors. Bears typically begin hibernating in late November or December, depending on the weather and availability of food.
4. Escape the Crowds
One of the best parts of camping during the offseason? Fewer crowds and lower rates! Enjoy the tranquility of nature without the hustle and bustle of summer vacationers. Whether it’s hiking through quiet trails or simply relaxing by your campfire, the solitude of winter camping offers a unique serenity at a great price.
5. Cooler Weather, Better Hikes
When the temperatures dip, hiking becomes a whole new experience. Enjoy the crisp, cool air and scenic views without breaking a sweat. Whether you’re exploring our own hiking trail at the resort or heading just a stone’s throw away to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Cades Cove, each hike feels like a new adventure with the fall leaves or serene snow-dusted landscapes of winter.
6. Soothe Your Muscles in the Hot Tub
After a long day of hiking or exploring, there’s nothing better than sinking into a warm, relaxing hot tub. And lucky for you, we have one waiting! There’s no better way to unwind on a chilly evening than soaking under the stars.
