The idea to create a national park in these mountains started in the late 1890s. Efforts to create a national park became successful in the mid-1920s. And in May, 1926, a bill was signed by President Calvin Coolidge that provided for the establishment of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Shenandoah National Park. The Great Smoky Mountains is boasting with wildlif

The Great Smoky Mountains is boasting with wildlife! Below are some of the common animals you can see when visiting the area.

🐻 The black bear is one of the most well-known and iconic wildlife animals in the Great Smoky Mountains. They are known to be found throughout the park, and are active primarily at dawn and dusk. Make sure you're bear aware!

🦌 The white-tailed deer is another common sight in the GSM. They are found throughout the park and are active both day and night.

🦃 The Eastern wild turkey is also found in the Great Smoky Mountains. They frequent in the park's wooded areas and are active mainly in the early morning and late afternoon.
